History: Over here! ^^
Personality:
Tatara is rather intuitive and very observant of others, often able to tell what they are feeling. And thus speaks freely as to what he would think would lead to the best outcome. Such circumstances include when Badou complained about Akagi. Tatara said, "Then a problem has arrived. Because he may be fighting a battle alone right now, so what will San-chan do?" It is said as though gently coaxing Bandou to save Akagi. Or, in another scenario, when Maria cornered him and threatened to strangle him over Chitose's misdeeds, Tatara simply said, "You like Chitose, don't you? What is it that you're really upset about?"
When he was later confronted by Izumo about hearing the information from Maria, Tatara answers, "If you talk to her calmly, she's actually quite a friendly person." And when Izumo asked him if he gave that information to Chitose, he simply said, "There's no meaning if he can't figure it out himself, right?"
This also indicates his faith that there is always a solution. He often says the phrase, "It's fine, it's fine; it'll all work out somehow." To which he almost always bears a smile, even in the worst of times. Further included, Tatara is a pacifist, and most certainly prefers to gently talk things through. He tends to be the voice of reason, especially toward Mikoto, as it is his duty to stop Mikoto from taking things too far. He can gently pull perspectives out and change people's viewpoints.
He also has very little regard for his own personal safety in favour of such perspectives. Such as when Mikoto tells Tatara to be careful with Eric, because he felt his murderous intent, Tatara calls Eric out to discuss a few things. Fujishima ends up telling him to have a little wariness of others intentions, or else Tatara will really end up dead someday. Tatara, worrying for having gotten Fujishima involved, apologises. And yet, he notices something else. When Eric is cornered by Fujishima, Tatara reaches over and yanks up Eric's sleeve, revealing tons of bruises. And he asks, "You're not really happy, are you?" Later on, he tries to deny to Izumo that he was almost killed by Eric, covering it up with his usual, it'll all work out somehow.
He is also rather agreeable as a person and easy to get along with, although he has a bit of callousness as well. He is quick to accept when he is told to run because he'll just get hurt, often with a teasing, "Well, if you insist~" before booking it another direction, or escorting a child out of the vicinity. This can also give him a bit of a bystander role, only stepping in as he sees fit. However, he's also exceptionally straightforward. He does confirm things, such as when Bandou has been drinking too much and had went off to think. But he also calls Bandou out on being petty about Akagi. And he does it all with a smile.
He also films the encounter, when Fujishima brings home Eric, and says, "Fujishima often picks up some stray cats or dogs, but it's the first time you've picked up a human." And he quickly quells Izumo into letting Eric stay with a, "Forget it; isn't it fine?" In addition, he points out to Yata that Eric resembles a golden retriever that also hated Yata with all of his heart. But when Yata sulks from that statement, Tatara smiles and says, "Ah, I'm really sorry. Did I reopen your old wounds? I'm here for you." and pets him.
In HOMRA, it is Tatara's assigned job to take care of new members. However, most often, he'll just back down from them and observe, often only offering guidance. He teaches them a few easy rules, and then tries to create a comfortable setting in which to make friends. He is genuinely concerned for others, and offers his hand for anyone to consult him if they need someone to talk to. He'll even ask questions as though checking in to see if something is wrong or make sure the others are doing alright. He does, however, dote on Anna alot, sometimes to the point of even tuning out the Chaos in the background to tend to her specifically. He even expresses genuine worry when Basashi, a Strain horse, runs wild in escape with Anna.
When Anna says she's going to help the horse, he convinces Izumo that it'll be fine, saying that Anna doesn't usually say selfish things, so she must have her reasons. And then, when he teases Anna by calling her cute when she's depressed, she takes the camera from him and films him instead. To which, he becomes completely nervous and says, "Give me a break, I'm not used to being filmed." And then apologises for picking on Anna in such a way.
And when Tatara's camera gets broken by Mikoto via being leant to Anna, instead of scolding them both, he smiles at them and says objects get broken sometimes. And when Anna says she wanted to capture memories, Tatara sits down and asks her to tell him about what they did that day instead.
Additionally, when in the efforts to retrieve Anna from the testing facility, Tatara asked the researcher on how to get to her. When the researcher ignored him, Tatara said, "Well, I guess it can't be helped if you don't want to tell us. Sorry, I'm weak, but my powers are good for torture." To which, he is only somewhat bluffing. When Mikoto proposes to blow a hole in the ground, Tatara furthers it by saying, "Let's make a hole in this person first." And then Tatara gives him a chilly smile. He then stares at a wall where he starts burning a hole into the wall to prove his point. And then says, "I can open holes like that. Since it burns, there isn’t a lot of blood. So if I pick the right places, even if I make several, I don’t think you’d die right away… Should I start digging?" This tactic does succeed in convincing the researcher to cooperate
(He does later complain at Izumo for forcing a rather unpleasant job onto him.)
He is, ultimately, loyal and dedicated to Mikoto, always calling him King; even before Mikoto's destiny as the Red King unfolds. He also understands Mikoto better than anyone else does. Izumo even believes that Tatara's role in HOMRA is mostly to be the calm voice to reach Mikoto in his times of Chaos. Izumo also tells Tatara that, when they first met, he thought of Tatara as a dog because he followed Mikoto everywhere; but says that he now thinks of Tatara as a Beast Tamer or something that makes Beasts obedient.
Tatara is not easily afraid, either. Such as when Mikoto gained his Flames, Mikoto told Tatara to stay away or else he would get hurt. And Tatara walked up to him, gave him a gentle smile, and said, "I won't get hurt." And then reaches out to touch Mikoto even through his flames. Later, after reflecting on that memory, he tells Mikoto he wants to be his loyal dog. And when Mikoto says that sounds gross, Tatara just laughs and says Mikoto's so harsh.
By extension, he has stopped other HOMRA members from being too aggressive, such as telling Mikoto not to burn people (with a somewhat joking if you do that, there will be no blood, bone, or ash left), or keeping Yata from punching someone. In exchange for being weaker than everyone else in HOMRA, he has the ability to be most in-sync with Mikoto's flames and never get burned by them.
Tatara enjoys talking to people, even strangers, primarily for the fact that they offer him views on a 'different world'. A primary example of this occurs when he tends to Kuro after being saved by him, because Kuro has a fever. He overhears Kuro talking in his sleep, and seems to recognise the name Ichigen, recalling that Ichigen is the Colourless King and had passed away recently. He becomes a little depressed when he has to leave Kuro to go tend to Yata, leaving behind peaches to recover with and a caring note. He says to himself, "I really wanted to hear your story."
In favour of such perspectives, he even insists on helping a "ghost." Ironically, Tatara doesn't believe in ghosts. Though he says things like, "I'll just think that it'd be nice if there was one." To which Izumo is like, "That's like wishing for Santa Claus..." Tatara then says, "If it was me, I would feel happy if I was still at the spot after my death. But a ghost is only there because someone wants to see it. The actual dead person has no influence over it." This expresses an idealist vs. realist tendency that resides within Tatara.
He is also prone to realising when something needs to be done. Such as when Izumo was yelling at, and getting aggressive with, an injured Mikoto, Tatara didn't try to stop it. He was understanding of Izumo's feelings so much that it hurt him too.
Tatara has an unusual way of thinking and will persist with things until told otherwise. Such as continuously calling Saruhiko "Saru-kun." Despite that Saruhiko shoots him dirty looks, Tatara keeps calling him that because Saruhiko has not directly said not to, and he is waiting on him to do such. He doesn't always adhere to rules and regulations, though usually only breaking minour ones. Such as breaking Izumo's policy of entering from the back of the building when the bar is open. He's even odd in the way of explaining things. Such as claiming that Mikoto was always a King, he just had that aura. "It was like casually wandering around town and bumping into a lion." is his literal interpretation. Izumo especially tends to say, "I don't understand your reasoning at all." to him
Tatara also does have a mischievous side. Especially displayed when Shouhei returns from two months of helping his mother and doesn't recognise Kamamoto because of all the weight he's lost. When Shouhei is still trying to figure it out days later, Tatara says he'll tell Shouhei the reason, but it's super top secret. And then promptly starts telling a tall tale about why Kamamoto loses all his weight in summer (claiming it was because Kamamoto was a storehouse of energy for HOMRA). and it takes Izumu to bop him on the head and tell him to quit saying such ridiculous things.
When he was younger, he would callenge Izumo and Mikoto to matches, in such various things as biking downhill toward a cliff ledge, with the one who brakes first being the loser, or playing kick the can, etc. And he seems to really enjoy these little challenges. He also did other typical male things, such as being a peeping tom, and getting Mikoto and Izumo to go see with him by calling it, "It's just awful! Come Quick!" and then saying, "See, it's completely visible!" with a smile on his face after baiting them there.
Tatara can be made uncomfortable, in the off-circumstance. For example, Tatara doesn't like being seen through. Such as when Anna used her ability to gaze at him, he felt as if his true self was laid bare, to which he became extremely uncomfortable and nervous. He tends to shove off being uncomfortable with a joking air, such as when he told Anna not to tell anyone else what she 'saw' in him. He did thank her for the warning, but his tone to keep it a secret was said as though he were joking.
Another instance was when Saruhiko told Tatara that Tatara could be strong enough to be a King too, Tatara's smile changed to something cruel, an unusual gesture, for him as he told Saruhiko that he shouldn't say such stupid things. He even retorted that, "A guy who is obsessed with stupid things can't become a King." Indicating himself, and he left it at that.
Tatara collects and tries a vast array of hobbies, constantly changing them out into a basic flavour of the week. This is because he constantly gets bored, appreciating the stimulus of new activity. He even says things such as, "I'm into cooking right now, so I'll make the dinner." However, it does seem the one hobby he stays true to later on is videotaping, since he loves keeping the memories. It is also said, by Izumo, that Tatara can fall asleep anywhere.
Tatara was filled with originality at even a young age. As in such times as when they ran out of food, because of his gambling father always losing all his money or being away, he would use a book to select edible grasses and survive that way. He also enjoys following through with creativity. Such as using rice and sugar to make pickles because the dish was profound and scientific knowledge, to him. He followed through simply because he was fascinated by the experimentation of it.
Even thought Tatara was abandoned and neglected as a child, instead of being bitter about it, he dedicated his time to playing every game imaginable and learned how to not spend money for his amusement. He even picked up musical hobbies, such as the harmonica and guitar. He prefers to focus on whatever keeps his interest at the time instead of the negative around him and will carry on as such.
Tatara views himself as a cold-hearted person, which all started with his adoptive father, who had called him cold-hearted just after he entered middle school. He blamed Tatara for enabling his gambling habit. That, since Tatara always ended up consoling his adoptive father more than the father ever did for him and remained exceptionally understanding, he was just enabling his adoptive father. He also claims that Tatara is also cold-hearted because Tatara gets interested in everything but won't stick to anything either.
Furthering on such a comment, he doesn't remember his real parents' faces, since he was abandoned in a park at the age of three. He was adopted by the first couple who talked to him and was left to his gambling, adoptive father when his adoptive mother decided she'd had enough of it. His adoptive father was neglectful, to say the least.
Regardless of all of this, Tatara doesn't feel bothered by it, deciding that it's just the way life goes sometimes. And his adoptive father finds this unusual, calling him out on it as further declaration of Tatara's cold demeanour.
At his adoptive father's funeral, Tatara comes to believe that he is, indeed, cold-hearted, after reviewing all of this information. Because his circumstances weren't a bad life, and he didn't feel sad about them. And even when his adoptive father died, he hadn't cried. He views himself as cold-hearted and selfish, as he clings to Mikoto. Yet, on this same day, he decides that Mikoto is the person he will give his support 100% to, without question, and remain loyal to him.
In the end, as he lays dying, he worries about being a burden to everyone. With the last of his strength he calls Izumo to tell him that he can't make the birthday party for Anna and that he truly felt blessed with everyone. He also wonders if Mikoto will be angry with him for dying. When Izumo and Yata rush to his side, and Yata holds him, he asks what the sad face is for and caresses Yata's face as he weakly utters, "It's fine, it's fine; it'll all work out somehow." Yata begs him not to fall asleep. In his final breath, he apologises for dying.
Overall, Tatara gives the perspective of a detached optimism. He masks his own feelings to wear a smile, particularly for the sake of other HOMRA members, since he has been told his optimism helps them through the hard times. He gives out praise and seems to believe the better good in people. "Although those two are making problems here and there, they're all doing it for the right reasons." He understands and connects well with people; though he believes he's apathetic towards them. He takes things casually and in-stride, hardly fazed by the events around him, while trying to resolve things peacefully.
Abilities:
Red Aura: Being one of the Red King's vassals, he does have HOMRA's mark and a skill to go with it. Although he can cause damage, displayed by burning a hole in the wall in Side:Red to threaten information out of someone, he is strictly a pacifist and much prefers to use his Aura to impress. Such as creating images of phoenixes and butterflies, or even using it to pick a lock by melting it from the inside. However, using his flames does tend to drain his strength.
Manipulation: Of the polite variety. With his skills at reading people, he can talk down just about anyone without using violence, often detecting the things they wish they could say and coaxing them to be honest with themselves. However, in a tight spot, he will manipulate by threatening the use of torture, often displaying said ability on a material factor nearby to show what he's capable of, and use the person's fear to get the information. He much prefers the peaceful route however, and will only do the threats if he is hardpressed to do so. He does, however, enjoy pulling someone's leg occasionally, and will not hesitate to troll someone if he finds the opportunity.
Hobby inclined: Tatara is a hobbyist, to say the least. And whatever he picks up he usually can do well. To include playing guitar, filming, and cooking. He switches up his hobbies regularly, to whatever inspires him in the moment.
Strengths:
-Understanding
-Friendly
-Kind/Gentle
-Observant
-Reasonable/Voice of Reason
Weaknesses:
-Too submissive
-Low self-worth
-Oblivious
-Stepford Smiler
-Physical Weakness
God/Shinki: Shinki, please!
Why?: Poor Tatara doesn’t want to control anything. He’s a rather submissive sort and is just fine with going with the flow. He even became a little harsh when someone told him he would make a good “King”, maintaining that he doesn’t believe in himself to be a good leader, and would rather be told what to do. He would probably hate everything about it if he were a God. He would also be pretty useless as a God, as he probably would never pick up any Shinki.
Cause Of Death: Tatara wanted to go all out for Anna’s birthday. Anna’s favourite colour being red, Tatara went out on the roof of a building before Anna’s birthday to film miracle lights that lit up through people’s phone apps. However, there was another visitor on the roof. Although Tatara tried to strike up a friendly conversation, the other man turned and shot him. He called the other members of HOMRA to tell them he wouldn’t make it to the party and died in Yata’s arms.
Vessel: Red Rose Corsage?
Name Location: Back of right hip
Power: Follow Me/Seeker: Casts a spell in the image of a red bird that leads the user to find a desired person or object. Limited to within 300 yards of Tatara, used twice per day. Tatara can also use this to point out otherwise useful objects (maps, tools, etc) in the nearby vicinity, which he can point out using a red laser-esque style beam.
Alternatively, an ability that captures and views memories?
